Tuesday Evening Diva Paddles
Meet at the ramp next to the Fish House between 5:15 and 5:25pm.
Since 2009, women of Ketchikan have been gathering at Southeast Sea Kayaks on summer Tuesday evenings for Diva Paddle. No singing or kayaking skills are required: just reasonable physical fitness and a desire to enjoy an evening on the water. Our friendly guides plan a trip to take advantage of wind and tide conditions and we vary the route as much as possible. Every evening is different: divas may visit the Ketchikan Creek, Bar Harbor, or explore Pennock and Gravina Island Shores. First timers are always welcome. Come with friends, or come on your own and we will pair you up with a new friend. When space allows, experienced paddlers may take single kayaks.
The Diva Paddle is a recreational paddle, not a tour. Participants must be Ketchikan residents; friends or family visiting Ketchikan residents; or employed in Ketchikan for the summer (we may ask to see and AK driver's license or pay stub).
Diva Details
Diva paddles begin in April, as soon as we have enough light to paddle until 7pm. The last Diva paddle of the season is the 1st Tuesday of September. We do not take reservations for Diva paddle but it is helpful to call and let us know that you are coming and check the weather. We paddle rain or shine but, due to the fun, social nature of the paddle, we do not always run Diva paddle on windy days. Ironically, sunny days are the most challenging for us as it is often very windy in town. Real divas paddle in the rain! Diva paddle begins promptly at 5:30pm and we aim to return to the dock about 7pm. Please bring $18 cash, a rain jacket and dress in loose fitting comfortable clothing.
Diva Special Events
For 2012, we are planning several women only kayaking events for our loyal Divas including kayak lessons, day paddles and a possible weekend trip in Misty Fjords. Please sign up for our locals email list (no spam just great kayaking info) to recieve updates. We also encourage Divas to get together and let us know what they would like to do.
