Orcas Cove Sea Kayaking
Sea kayaking Orcas Cove and flightseeing the Misty Fjords National Monument are two great Alaskan experiences. Our 5 hour combination trip allows you to make the most of your time in Ketchikan by taking 2 tours in one - it's the ultimate Alaskan shore excursion. We depart our waterfront location and travel about 20 minutes by boat to remote Orca’s Cove. Here you will meet your guides and become familiar with kayaking. No prior kayaking experience is required, after a basic lesson we take off paddling amongst numerous islands, immersing ourselves in the surroundings and keeping a lookout for wildlife. While it is impossible to predict what we will see on any given day, we often have the opportunity to observe nesting bald eagles or see playful harbor seals and we are always on the lookout for Orcas and humpback whales. Our kayking time is about 2.5 hours after which we return to the mothership for a picnic of local caught and smoked salmon and hot drinks. The combination tour is available on most Orcas Cove trip times.

Floatplane boarding at Orcas Cove

Flightseeing Misty Fjords National Monument
Where but Southeast Alaska could you be picked up from a boat by a floatplane? An experienced Alaskan bush pilot helps you aboard the float-plane and takes off for the next leg of your adventure. In the floatplane, everyone has windowseats and headsets so you can talk with your pilot as you fly to Misty Fjords National Monument. Viewed from the air, the 3000 foot granite cliffs and waterfalls of Misty Fjords are an incredible sight. A true wilderness with no roads or towns, the Misty Fjords National Monument is about the same size as the state of Connecticut. As you fly over Alpine lakes and old growth forest, keep an eye out for mountain goats and both black and brown bears on the ground. An exhilarating part of the trip is landing in the Misty Fjords and stepping out onto the floats to take photos and enjoy the extraordinary serenity of the Fjords.

How to Book
Because our groups are small, space is extremely limited and advance bookings are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. Tours may be reserved online or over the phone at 1-800-287-1607.

Booking and Cancellation Policies
We take payment in full at time of booking. Tickets are fully refundable, less a $25 processing fee, if cancelled at least 14 days before the trip date. Cancellations with less than 14 days prior notice are non-refundable. We do offer a full refund in the unlikely event that your Cruise Ship is running too late for your trip to be re-scheduled, or if your cruise ship misses port. Southeast Sea Kayaks reserves the right to cancel trips for unsafe conditions (occasionally we have high winds) in which case all money will be refunded in full. Rain is not unsafe - we will dress you for the weather.

Trip Timing and Details
The combination trip is usually available on any Orcas Cove trip time with space available. It is easy to Check Availability and book online: if the time you have chosen does not work for flights or a ship schedule, we will let you know and find alternatives. For guests with short port times, we can run a condensed or "on-arrival" version of the combination, please call or email us for details. The first 3.5 hours of the trip are the boat ride to Orcas Cove, kayaking and smoked salmon picnic. The flight portion of the trip is approximately 1.5 hours. Cruise ship visitors will meet our courtesy van at the visitors bureau rain gauge. Visitors staying locally can also meet us at our store location. We ask all parties to meet us 15 minutes prior to trip time. If you are arriving by cruise ship, please allow 30 minutes from the time your ship docks to your trip's starting time and allow 1 hour between your trip's finishing time and the departure time for your cruise ship.

What to Wear and Bring
For the combination trip, we generally sea kayak at Orcas Cove first. Please do not be afraid to bring your cameras. Dry bags are provided to protect your camera or video recorder, guests may also bring a backpack or camera bag to take on the flightseeing portion of the trip and leave it aboard the mothership while they are kayaking. We ask that you dress in warm, comfortable layers. Paddling jackets and rain pants are provided. We use sprayskirts on the kayaks to help keep you dry. Sneakers are ideal for foot wear rather than large hiking boots which tend to be too bulky for the kayaks. Please do not wear high heels which can be dangerous on the docks and when getting onto the floatplane.

Because our groups are small, space is extremely limited in June, July and August and advance bookings are highly recommended to avoid disappointment.
