Kayaking for Kids Ages 10 - 14yrs
$119 Per Child

A safe and fun filled introduction to kayaking. Participants will learn the basics of sea kayaking including how to enter and exit, paddle and manuever double kayaks. Each session includes a land lesson, warm-up, games, snacks and paddling practice. We also learn about kayaks and equipment, dressing and preparing for kayaking and how to assess wind, tide and weather conditions. Our goal for the final day is to paddle to Pennock Island or Gravina Island and back. For 2012 we have Kayaking for Kids programs planned for 1:30pm - 5:30pm on the following dates:

  • June 18th - 21st
  • August 6th - 9th
  • Custom dates available for groups of 6 or more

To sign up your child for Youth Programs, please complete our easy online registration form or call our office at 225-1258. Parents also need to sign a waiver for each participating child: waivers are available at our store, or as a PDF download to print and return. Participants do not have to be able to swim as we aim to stay in the kayaks and out of the water! Snacks and outerwear are provided. Participants should be dressed in warm layers with Xtra Tuffs or other knee high rubber boots. Please sign up early, we do need a minimum number of participants to run the class. Each session is the same but you are welcome to sign up for both or take Kayaking for Kids early in the summer and progress to Adventure Kayakers.

Paddles UpQ1 Last Day of Youth Program

Adventure Kayakers Ages 12 - 16yrs
$139 Per Child

Designed for those who participated in Kayaking for Kids or who have kayaked a few times and would like to learn more. Paddlers will develop the skills to sea kayak safely in Alaskan waters. On water practice will include learning boat handling techniques in both single and double kayaks, assisted rescue techniques, ferrying and towing. We will also learn about the nautical rules of the road, marine radio communications and how to plan and prepare for a kayaking day trip. Each session inlcudes a land lesson, warm up, games, snacks and paddling practice. Our goal is to plan and complete a paddle around Pennock Island or at Orcas Cove on the final day. For 2012 we have planned r Adventure Kayakers Programs from 1:30pm - 5:30pm on the following dates:

  • June 25th - 29th
  • August 20th - 24th
  • Custom dates available for groups of 6 or more

Boot Camps and Custom Group Programs
Southeast Sea Kayaks also offers custom kids programs for Girl and Boy Scout troops, schools and youth groups. We can run either of the programs above as a group program at special group rates and we have a 3 afternoon or 1 full day "boot camp" youth program curriculum. The boot camp program aims to teach young kayakers the essential skills for heading out in kayaks in Southeast Alaska It is ideal for groups planning kayak camping trips in the wilderness who want to brush up on their skills.
